Iodine Nutrition Survey Among Pregnant Women in Weifang from 2017 to 2024Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the iodine nutrition status of pregnant women in Weifang and provide a basis for scientific iodine supplementation and prevention of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD).METHODS Monitoring data from IDD surveys in Weifang(2017-2024)were collected, and the iodine content in household salt and urinary iodine levels of pregnant women were analyzed.A database was established using Excel, and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 13.0.RESULTS A total of 9 099 urine samples from pregnant women were collected from 2017 to 2024,with a median urinary iodine level of 156.3 μg/L.Comparisons of median urinary iodine levels among different years and regions showed statistically significant differences(x2=225.196,267.384;P<0.05).Additionally,it collected salt samples from households with pregnant women totaling 9 600;among these, there were 8 568 qualified iodized salts, while there were also 427 unqualified iodized salts and 605 non-iodized saltsresulting in a non-iodized salt rate of 6.3%,an iodized salt coverage rate of 93.70%,an iodized salt qualification rateof 89.25%,and a qualified iodized salt consumption rateof 95.25%.The comparison of iodized salt qualification rates across different years revealed statistically significant differences(x2=216.62,P<0.05).The median urinary iodine levels for pregnant women consuming qualified versus unqualified iodized salts were 157.18 μg/L and 146.00 μg/L respectively, and the difference was statistically signi ficant(x2=12.607,P<0.05).Pregnant women's median urinary iodine level was highest in northern coastal areas at 176.45 μg/L and lowestin southern hilly areas at 148.04 μg/L with statistical significance observed when comparing different topographical regions(x2=170.598,P<0.05).Urinary iodine levels during late pregnancy were found to be lowest at 152.40 μg/L,and comparisons among various stages showed statistically significant differences(x2=12.514,P<0.05).CONCLUSION The iodine nutrition status of pregnant women in Weifang is generally adequate. However, some years and regions still fail to meet the IDD elimination criteria.Public health efforts should strengthen awareness campaigns on the importance of iodized salt and guide pregnant women in proper iodine supplementation.
Analysis of Current Status of Uric Acid in the Population Aged 18 to 60 Undergoing Physical Examinations and Its Correlation with Renal Function in A Certain Hospital of ZhengzhouAbstract:OBJECTIVE To analyze the current status of hyperuricemia(HUA)among individuals aged 18 to 60 undergoing health check-ups and its correlation with kidney function in a certain hospital.METHODS A total of 33 112 individuals aged 18 to 60 who had health check-ups at Zhengzhou Central Hospital from 2021 to 2023 were selected.General information and laboratory data were collected. The distribution status of HUA was analyzed to identify factors affecting HUA and its correlation.RESULTS The prevalence of HUA among the health check-up population aged 18 to 60 was 21.93%,with a trend of younger men(x2=367.40,P<0.01);the prevalence across all age groups was higher in men than in women(P<0.01).Logistic regression indicated that eGFR,body mass index(BMI),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),blood urea nitrogen(BUN),triglycerides(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),fasting blood glucose(FBG),and glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)were influencing factors for HUA(P<0.05).Grouping by eGFR<90 ml·min-1·(1.73 m2)-1 and eGFR≥90 mL·min-1·(1.73 m2)-1 showed that there was a difference in HUA prevalence between the two groups(x2=422.847,P<0.01);after adjusting for confounding factors, the risk of eGFR<90 mL·min-1·(1.73 m2)-1 in the HUA group was 2.11 times that of the normal uric acid group(95%CI:1.936~2.299,P<0.01).CONCLUSION Among individuals aged 18 to 60 undergoing health check-ups in a certain hospital of Zhengzhou, there is a trend of younger males experiencing HUA,with a prevalence higher than that of females;abnormalities in eGFR,BMI,DBP,BUN,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C,FBG,and HbA1c all increase the risk of HUA;HUA is an independent risk factor for abnormal kidney function.
A Cross-Sectional Study of Sleep Duration and Risk of Stroke in the Middle-Aged and Elderly PopulationAbstract:OBJECTIVE To quantify the strength of association between sleep duration and stroke risk, and to elucidate the moderating effects of gender,urban-rural setting, and chronic diseases, thereby informing the formulation and refinement of public health policies.METHODS Utilising data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study,it included 19 350 middle-aged and older adults aged 45 years and above.A multi-model stratified analysis was employed to examine the association between sleep duration and stroke risk, along with its potential mechanisms.RESULTS Abnormal sleep duration(either insufficient or excessive)constitutes a significant modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Both insufficient sleep time(<6 hours)and excessive sleep time(>8 hours)substantially elevate stroke risk, with the association exhibiting marked heterogeneity across gender, residential location, and chronic disease subgroups.CONCLUSION Both insufficient sleep time(<6 hours)and excessive sleep time(>8 hours)substantially elevate stroke risk among middle-aged and elderly Chinese individuals.Risk heterogeneity is pronounced, with males, rural residents, and those with chronic diseases constituting stroke high-risk groups.Potential biological mechanisms include metabolic dysregulation, inflammatory activation, and blood pressure fluctuations.Tailored interventions addressing population-specific characteristics are warranted to mitigate stroke risk in this demographic.
