Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the iodine nutrition status of pregnant women in Weifang and provide a basis for scientific iodine supplementation and prevention of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD).METHODS Monitoring data from IDD surveys in Weifang(2017-2024)were collected, and the iodine content in household salt and urinary iodine levels of pregnant women were analyzed.A database was established using Excel, and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 13.0.RESULTS A total of 9 099 urine samples from pregnant women were collected from 2017 to 2024,with a median urinary iodine level of 156.3 μg/L.Comparisons of median urinary iodine levels among different years and regions showed statistically significant differences(x2=225.196,267.384;P<0.05).Additionally,it collected salt samples from households with pregnant women totaling 9 600;among these, there were 8 568 qualified iodized salts, while there were also 427 unqualified iodized salts and 605 non-iodized saltsresulting in a non-iodized salt rate of 6.3%,an iodized salt coverage rate of 93.70%,an iodized salt qualification rateof 89.25%,and a qualified iodized salt consumption rateof 95.25%.The comparison of iodized salt qualification rates across different years revealed statistically significant differences(x2=216.62,P<0.05).The median urinary iodine levels for pregnant women consuming qualified versus unqualified iodized salts were 157.18 μg/L and 146.00 μg/L respectively, and the difference was statistically signi ficant(x2=12.607,P<0.05).Pregnant women's median urinary iodine level was highest in northern coastal areas at 176.45 μg/L and lowestin southern hilly areas at 148.04 μg/L with statistical significance observed when comparing different topographical regions(x2=170.598,P<0.05).Urinary iodine levels during late pregnancy were found to be lowest at 152.40 μg/L,and comparisons among various stages showed statistically significant differences(x2=12.514,P<0.05).CONCLUSION The iodine nutrition status of pregnant women in Weifang is generally adequate. However, some years and regions still fail to meet the IDD elimination criteria.Public health efforts should strengthen awareness campaigns on the importance of iodized salt and guide pregnant women in proper iodine supplementation.
