Analysis on the testing of droplet size of mosquito sprayers in GuangzhouAbstract:Objective To explore the situation of droplet size in mosquito sprayers used during dengue fever outbreaks in Guangzhou,so as to provide scientific recommendations for equipment selection in outbreak management. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 39 pest control operation(PCO)institutions or street disinfection stations across the city, and the droplet size of the equipment was tested using the Spraylink-E high-speed spray particle analyzer.Chi-square tests and t-tests were used to compare qualitative and quantitative data, respectively. Results A total of 90 mosquito sprayers from 39 institutions were surveyed. The pass rate of ultra-low volume sprayers was 45.26%,while that of regular volume sprayers was 100%.At distances of 0.25 m and 0.5 m,there were statistically significant differences in D10 and D50 values between water and insecticide medium for ultra-low volume sprayers(all P<0.05).Paired sample t-test results showed that when testing with water quality, there were statistically significant differences between the labeled and actual values for both ultra-low volume and regular volume sprayers(both P<0.05).For UVL1 and UVL2 under different usage years, the differences were also statistically significant(both P<0.001).Conclusion Currently, all ultra-low volume sprayers in use have situations where droplet sizes that do not meet the corresponding requirements. In daily mosquito control and emergency response, proper equipment selection and maintenance should be ensured.
Application of the moving epidemic method in the surveillance of Aedes albopictusAbstract:Objective To explore the application of the moving epidemic method,a time series-based graded early warning model for infectious disease epidemic intensity in the ecological monitoring of Aedes albopictus,so as to provide scientific guidance for its control. Methods The density data of Ae.albopictus collected using CO2 mosquito lure lamp method in Xicheng District,Beijing from 2018 to 2023,were analyzed and classified using the moving epidemic method. Each threshold was calculated, and thus the density intensity of Ae.albopictus in different seasons in 2024 were analyzed. Results When the density of Ae.albopictus came up to 0.06 mosquitoes/(lamp·hour),the activity intensity reached the initial threshold;at 0.43 mosquitoes/(lamp·hour),it reached the medium threshold;at 0.81 mosquitoes/(lamp·hour),it reached the high threshold;and at 0.98 mosquitoes/(lamp·hour),it reached the ultra-high threshold. Conclusion By formulating corresponding control strategies based on these threshold values and implementing interventions for the control work in 2024,the density of Ae.albopictus in that year can be effectively reduced.
Analysis of fly ecological surveillance results and insecticide resistance of Musca domestica in Huai'an in 2023Abstract:Objective To investigate the ecological characteristics of fly and the insecticide resistance of Musca domestica in Huai'an,so as to provide scientific evidence for the control of fly and the prevention of related infectious diseases. Methods Ecological surveillance of fly was conducted using the cage trapping method, and the insecticide resistance of M.domestica was measured using topical application method.Data were organized and analyzed using Excel 2019 and SPSS 20.0 software. The Kruskal-Wallis H test was employed to analyze fly densities in different habitats.Welch's analysis was used to compare fly densities in months.Spearman correlation analysis was applied to assess the correlation between M.domestica density and total fly density.Probit regression analysis was utilized to calculate LD50,95%confidence intervals, and resistance ratio of M.domestica.Results In 2023,the total fly density in Huai'an was 4.69 flies per cage.M.domestica was the dominant species, accounting for 45.24%.The highest fly density was observed in farmers' markets,at 7.13 flies per cage, with no significant differences in fly density among different habitats(H=4.382,P=0.223).Fly density exhibited a unimodal seasonal fluctuation pattern, peaking at 10.98 flies per cage in July.Significant variations in total fly density were observed in different months(F=13.641,P<0.01).M.domestica density and total fly density showed similar trends and were significantly correlated(r=0.936,P<0.01).The resistance ratios of M.domestica to dichlorvos,beta-cypermethrin,deltamethrin and dinotefuran were 3.25,378.71,46.02,and 293.58,respectively.Conclusion Huai'an exhibited a high diversity of fly species, with the peak density period in July. The farmers' market served as a key place for fly management. The dominant specie M.domestic had developed resistance to beta-cypermethrin,deltamethrin,and dinotefuran. Therefore, the single application of these insecticides should be minimized, and combinations of low-resistance insecticides should be prioritized.

China's public health assistance in practice:The case of the 30th Chinese medical team in GuineaAbstract:This paper reviews the systematic public health initiatives undertaken by the 30th Chinese medical team to Guinea, focusing on key issues such as Guinea's healthcare system, infectious disease burden, and vector control.Leveraging international public health advisors, field research, and literature analysis, the team implemented multiple interventions at institutions including the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital, the University of Conakry, health vocational schools, and Chinese-funded enterprises. These included advancing hospital infection management systems, conducting public health capacity training for medical staff, implementing mental health assessments, and innovatively establishing the first vector control office. The introduction of the"Three Circles"integrated mosquito control strategy significantly reduced vector density in key areas.Furthermore, the team provided tailored policy recommendations to Guinea's Ministry of Health(including the Disease Control Bureau and Biosafety Agency),successfully localizing Chinese public health practices such as the Patriotic Health Campaign concept and malaria elimination models. This practice demonstrates that integrating public health professionals into overseas medical assistance teams deepens the integration of medical care and public health, enhancing aid effectiveness.Future China-Africa public health cooperation could further strengthen top-level design, leveraging the One Health concept to advance more systematic disease prevention and control collaboration.
The current situation of cockroach infestation and prevention and control countermeasures in a rehabilitation and convalescence centerAbstract:Objective To analyze the population density and distribution characteristics of cockroaches in rehabilitation and convalescence centers and formulate precise prevention and control strategies. Methods Based on ecological niche differences, the monitoring area was divided into four types of habitats:vacant houses, nutrition buildings, convalescent rooms and family quarters.Sticky paper was randomly placed in cockroach houses at a ratio of 20%,and continuous monitoring was carried out for five months. All the collected specimens were taxonomically identified and statistical analysis were carried out. Results A total of 400 pieces of sticky paper were placed in the cockroach house(386 valid sticky papers were recovered),and 60 cockroaches were captured, with an overall density of 0.16 cockroaches per piece. The distribution of cockroaches reached its peak in December(with a density of 0.22 cockroaches per sheet),and the differences in the room invasion rate and the catch of cockroaches in each month were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Among them,Blattella germanica was the dominant population(accounting for 90.0%),and its density shows a significant niche differentiation from that of Periplaneta americana(accounting for 10.0%).Conclusion The prevention and control of cockroaches in this rehabilitation and convalescence center should focus on strengthening environmental management during the high-incidence period from December to January of the following year, and optimizing the pest control plan based on the characteristics of the dominant population of B.germanica.At the same time,a continuous monitoring system should be established in combination with the business characteristics of convalescent institutions, and the cockroach prevention and control measures in rehabilitation and convalescent center should be constantly improved. This will effectively reduce the risk of vector transmission, improve the convalescent environment, and further ensure the health and safety of convalescent institutions and staff.
