Abstract:Objective To explore the situation of droplet size in mosquito sprayers used during dengue fever outbreaks in Guangzhou,so as to provide scientific recommendations for equipment selection in outbreak management. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 39 pest control operation(PCO)institutions or street disinfection stations across the city, and the droplet size of the equipment was tested using the Spraylink-E high-speed spray particle analyzer.Chi-square tests and t-tests were used to compare qualitative and quantitative data, respectively. Results A total of 90 mosquito sprayers from 39 institutions were surveyed. The pass rate of ultra-low volume sprayers was 45.26%,while that of regular volume sprayers was 100%.At distances of 0.25 m and 0.5 m,there were statistically significant differences in D10 and D50 values between water and insecticide medium for ultra-low volume sprayers(all P<0.05).Paired sample t-test results showed that when testing with water quality, there were statistically significant differences between the labeled and actual values for both ultra-low volume and regular volume sprayers(both P<0.05).For UVL1 and UVL2 under different usage years, the differences were also statistically significant(both P<0.001).Conclusion Currently, all ultra-low volume sprayers in use have situations where droplet sizes that do not meet the corresponding requirements. In daily mosquito control and emergency response, proper equipment selection and maintenance should be ensured.
