Exploring the Mechanism of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Treating Early Stress-Induced Depression Based on the Theory of"Deficient Qi Stagnation"
[Journal Article]ZHU Wenjun, YUAN Naijun, TANG Manshi et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by persistent low mood and anhedonia, though its mechanisms remain incompletely understood.Studies have shown that stress caused by early adverse events can induce depression."Deficient Qi stagnation"refers to the pathological condition of weakened primordial Qi and stagnation of flowing substances such as Qi,blood, and body fluids in the body.Based on the theory of"deficient Qi stagnation",this paper explains how"deficient Qi stagnation"serves as the core pathological basis of this disease and its connection with modern pathological research. It further explores the mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)therapies in treating this condition, providing new perspectives and theoretical foundations for a deeper understanding of the prevention and treatment of early stress-induced depression with TCM.

Research Progress on Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment and its Mechanisms for Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Pneumonia
[Journal Article]SONG Wei, ZHANG Xuanguo, LI Huimi et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia(MPP)is a common respiratory disease characterized by cyclical epidemic peaks every few years.Macrolides serve as the first-line treatment for this disease;however, prolonged usage of it has led to an increasing drug resistance rate of Mycoplasma pneumoniae(MP)to macrolides.Due to the adverse reactions of second-line drugs such as tetracyclines and quinolones, their clinical application is limited, posing challenges in clinical treatment.Extensive clinical studies have reported that traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)demonstrates significant efficacy in treating MPP.TCM exerts therapeutic effects by inhibiting MP adhesion, alleviating direct pathogen-induced damage, mitigating inflammatory injury, modulating immune function, improving vascular occlusion, and addressing drug resistance. This article provides a comprehensive review of TCM-based treatments for MPP and their mechanisms, offering valuable references for the prevention and treatment of MPP through TCM methods.

Theoretical Connotation and Practice of the Liver-Soothing and Spleen-Fortifying Method in Depression
[Journal Article]ZOU Tan, JIANG Li, DING Nana et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Depression is a common psychological disorder, falling under the category of"depression syndrome"in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The two key factors in the pathogenesis of depression are liver dysfunction in regulating Qi flow and spleen dysfunction in transportation and transformation. These factors interact, ultimately forming the fundamental pathogenesis of depression characterized by liver stagnation and spleen deficiency. The liver governs the free flow of Qi,while the spleen governs transportation and transformation. The liver and spleen work in synergy to regulate human emotions and mental states. The liver-soothing and spleen-fortifying method serves as the overarching principle for treating depression.By applying this method, the functions of the liver and spleen can be harmonized,Qi and blood as well as Yin and Yang can be balanced, and Qi activity can be regulated smoothly, thereby achieving therapeutic goals.Xiaoyao San,known for its effects in soothing the liver, relieving stagnation, nourishing blood, and fortifying the spleen,is a classic formula for treating depression under the guidance of formula-syndrome correspondence. This paper, focusing on the TCM treatment of depression, provides a theoretical interpretation of the fundamental pathogenesis of depression and the liver-soothing and spleen-fortifying method. It also summarizes the clinical efficacy and animal studies on the application of Xiaoyao San in treating depression, thereby enriching the scope of application of the liver-soothing and spleen-fortifying method.

Exploring the Meaning of"Syndrome"in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Perspective of Somaesthetics
[Journal Article]GUO Qi, HAN Jiatong, ZHANG Han et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:The understanding of"syndrome"in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is a key focus and challenge in fundamental research. As"syndrome"encompasses the comprehensive perception of patients by physicians through the four diagnostic methods, its connotation is difficult to fully interpret through scientific experiments alone. This paper attempts to introduce the concept of somaesthetics to explore the meaning of"syndrome"in a more profound and nuanced manner. The study focuses on analyzing four major syndrome differentiation systems:the six-meridian syndrome differentiation system interprets changes in bodily tension due to disease;the defense-Qi-nutrient-blood syndrome differentiation system reflects the depth of disease stagnation;the triple-energizer syndrome differentiation system focuses on obstructed bodily pathways;and the visceral syndrome differentiation system explains the gradually accumulating bodily deviations in internal injury diseases. This paper argues that somaesthetics and TCM share common goals in pursuing self-awareness,self-acceptance,and the harmonious unity of body, mind, and the spatiotemporal environment.Exploring"syndrome"from the perspective of somaesthetics not only helps visualize and concretize abstract TCM concepts but also provides rich practical examples for the fundamental principles of somaesthetics.

Analysis of the Pathogenesis and Acupuncture Treatment Strategies for Peripheral Neuropathy in Rheumatic Immune Diseases Based on the"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment"Theory
[Journal Article]LIU Jiameng, JIANG Quan, LI Kesong et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Based on Professor Jiang Quan's"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment"theory, this paper explores the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)pathogenesis of rheumatic immune diseases(RIDs)combined with peripheral neuropathy(PN)and discusses acupuncture treatment strategies.Utilizing the theoretical framework of"sinews as the body, collaterals as the pivot, and viscera as the root",the pathological transmission mechanism of RIDs-PN,characterized by"body impediment affecting the viscera and visceral impediment damaging the body",is analyzed.Accordingly,an acupuncture treatment strategy of"simultaneous treatment of body and viscera"is proposed. The core pathogenesis is revealed as external pathogens obstructing the sinews, prolonged illness entering the collaterals leading to collateral stasis, and internal damage to the viscera, forming a vicious cycle of"body impediment affecting the viscera and visceral impediment affecting the body".Based on this,an acupuncture treatment system integrating three synergistic methods—"treating sinews to relieve symptoms, unblocking collaterals to resolve stasis, and regulating viscera to address the root cause"—is constructed.The"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment"theory provides a holistic perspective for explaining the complex pathogenesis of"mutual transmission between body and viscera"in RIDs-PN.The acupuncture strategy of"simultaneous treatment of body and viscera",through the synergy of relaxing sinews, unblocking collaterals, and regulating viscera, achieves both symptomatic and root-cause treatment, offering new insights for developing systematic clinical intervention plans.

[Journal Article]ZHANG Rouman, LIU Yanjun, JIANG Quan-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:The diagnostic and therapeutic model for rheumatic and immune diseases has evolved from a singular approach to a diversified one.In this context, the comorbidity of body impediment and visceral impediment has become a core challenge in the prevention and treatment of modern traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)rheumatology, directly influencing patient prognosis and clinical outcomes. This paper focuses on the theoretical origin and literature research of the"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment"theory, systematically analyzing its clinical needs from multiple dimensions, including early prevention, clinical efficacy, prognosis improvement, and the establishment of a diagnostic and therapeutic system.Furthermore,it proposes a preliminary framework for constructing a diagnostic and therapeutic system for"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment".This framework encompasses multiple directions, such as refining the theory of comorbidity between body impediment and visceral impediment, building databases, exploring pathogenesis and biological implications, constructing risk prediction models, optimizing treatment protocols, and promoting public awareness. This paper aims to provide new paradigms and perspectives for addressing the"refractory-systemic-progressive"challenges of rheumatic and immune diseases, thereby contributing to the long-term development of TCM in the treatment of rheumatology.

Research Progress of Diagnostics of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2025
[Journal Article]DU Song, ZHAO Yuping, YUE Guangxin et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:In 2025,guided by national policies and profoundly empowered by artificial intelligence technologies, the field of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)diagnostics has advanced across five key dimensions:theoretical innovation, technological transformation, basic research, clinical application, and educational pedagogy.Large model technologies have transitioned from concept validation to clinical application, achieving breakthroughs in lightweight ancient text models and multimodal diagnostic assistance systems.Research on diagnostic theory has focused on the revitalization of classics, encompassing ancient text mining of tongue and pulse diagnostics,as well as hand diagnosis, abdominal diagnosis, and ethnic medicine diagnostic methods.Syndrome research has deepened the refinement and standardization of pattern differentiation, with the gradual promotion of"data-knowledge"dual-driven pattern differentiation methods.Animal models combining disease and syndrome, such as Cold pattern,Heat pattern,Phlegm-Blood stasis pattern, and Damp-Heat pattern, have become increasingly stable.Metabolomics and microbiomics have revealed more biomarkers and signaling pathways associated with TCM syndromes.Diagnostic equipment has achieved multimodal data fusion and upgrades, with significant improvements in the clinical adaptability of flexible sensor pulse-taking devices, intelligent tongue diagnostic systems, and infrared thermal imaging equipment.Wearable devices are expanding applications in health management scenarios.Educational reform, through digital platforms, scenario simulation, and ideological-political integration, has constructed a"theory-practice-thinking"trinity training system, overcoming traditional teaching bottlenecks.Simultaneously, the discipline's development still faces challenges such as insufficient interpretability of large models, inadequate depth in multi-diagnostic method data fusion, and the need to enhance the specificity of syndrome biomarkers. This article systematically reviews the core research achievements in TCM diagnostics in 2025,aiming to provide a reference for the discipline's development.

Exploring the Application and Mechanism of Pungent Medicine in the Treatment of Sjögren's Syndrome Based on the Theory of Sweat Pores
[Journal Article]WANG Qiliu, LI Cuijuan, GONG Zhendong et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Sjögren's syndrome falls under the category of"dryness impediment"in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),with clinical manifestations primarily including dry mouth, dry eyes, and dry skin.Sweat pores are the smallest functional units of the human body, serving as the"gateways"and"passages"for Qi,blood, and body fluids. The obstruction of sweat pores leads to dysfunction of the organs, resulting in symptoms of dryness due to the abnormal distribution of Qi,blood, and body fluids. Therefore, many TCM practitioners adopt the method of opening sweat pores in clinical treatment to restore the balance of Qi and fluids, thereby alleviating the symptoms of dryness in the body.Pungent herbs have multiple effects, including dispersing, promoting Qi flow, moistening, unblocking collaterals, and resolving stasis.Their properties of opening, dispersing, and promoting movement can clear sweat pores, harmonize Qi and blood, and facilitate the generation and distribution of body fluids, thus relieving dryness symptoms.Based on the theory of sweat pores, this paper explores the etiology and pathogenesis of Sjögren's syndrome and delves into the application of pungent medicine in the treatment of Sjögren's syndrome.Furthermore,it combines modern pharmacological research to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms, providing more theoretical foundations and methodological insights for the clinical use of pungent medicine in treating Sjögren's syndrome by opening sweat pores.

Exploring the Influence of Nutrient Qi and Defensive Qi in the Pathogenesis of Diabetic Nephropathy Based on the"Vessel Distension"Theory
[Journal Article]XIAO Yang, YU Jing, WANG Xinrui et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Diabetic nephropathy is a common clinical disease, and a thorough understanding of its pathogenesis is crucial for effective treatment.Based on the"vessel distension"theory from the Spiritual Pivot, which states that"nutrient Qi circulates through the vessels, while defensive Qi counterflows, leading to vessel distension"and"when genuine Qi and pathogenic factors contend, the two forces clash, resulting in distension",this paper explores the pathological process of diabetic nephropathy from the perspective of nutrient Qi and defensive Qi.The concept of the"collateral-channel-thoroughfare vessel network"is proposed, elucidating that this network serves as the physiological basis for toxin-induced damage to the kidney collaterals. The"vessel distension"caused by the imbalance of nutrient Qi and defensive Qi is identified as the pathological basis for toxin-induced damage to the kidney collaterals. It is argued that the"damage"in"toxin damaging the kidney collaterals"is a consequence of"vessel distension".Additionally, the influence of nutrient Qi and defensive Qi at different stages of the"collateral-channel-thoroughfare vessel network"is discussed. This study further refines the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy, providing valuable insights for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

[Journal Article]SHI Yuexin, YAN Jun, WU Caijun et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between different traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome types in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)patients and serum programmed cell death protein 1(PD-1)and its ligand PD-L1.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted, enrolling 160 COPD patients treated at Dongzhimen Hospital,Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from April 2024 to April 2025.Including 20 cases of spleen-lung Qi deficiency syndrome,22 cases of lung-kidney Qi deficiency syndrome,57 cases of phlegm-turbidity obstructing lung syndrome,35 cases of phlegm-heat congesting lung syndrome, and 26 cases of phlegm-stasis intermingling syndrome.Additionally,40 healthy volunteers were included as controls.General patient data were collected, and assessments included the COPD Assessment Test(CAT),modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale(mMRC),and respiratory function parameters(FEV1,FEV1%predicted,FEV1/FVC).Peripheral venous blood was collected to measure NEUT,NLR,PCT,CRP,IL-6,TNF-α,PD-1,and PD-L1.Differences in clinical scores, respiratory function, inflammatory markers, and PD-1/PD-L1 levels across TCM syndromes were compared.Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear regression were used to evaluate relationships between variables. Results Among the five TCM syndromes, significant intergroup differences were observed in CAT scores,mMRC scores,FEV1,FEV1/FVC,NEUT,NLR,CRP,IL-6,and TNF-α(P<0.05),while FEV1%and PCT showed no significant differences(P>0.05).Compared to controls,COPD patients showed significantly higher PD-1 and lower PD-L1 levels, with significant intergroup differences across TCM syndromes(P<0.05).The serum PD-1 level in patients with COPD was positively correlated with CAT score,CRP,NLR,and IL-6(r=0.174,0.159,0.406,0.374,P<0.05),but not significantly correlated with mMRC classification,FEV1,FEV1/FVC,FEV1%,NEUT,and TNF-α(P>0.05).The serum PD-L1 level was negatively correlated with CAT score,CRP,NEUT,NLR,IL-6,and TNF-α(r=-0.205,-0.360,-0.203,-0.171,-0.365,-0.206,P<0.05),but not significantly correlated with mMRC classification,FEV1%,FEV1,and FEV1/FVC(P>0.05).Multiple regression models constructed with PD-1 as the dependent variable is statistically significant(F=18.094,P<0.001).46.2%of PD-1 variation was explained by spleen-lung Qi deficiency,lung-kidney Qi deficiency,phlegm-turbidity obstructing lung syndrome,NLR,and IL-6(adjusted R2=0.462).For PD-L1,multiple regression models constructed with PD-L1 as the dependent variable is statistically significant(F=9.969,P<0.001).36.1%of variation was explained by spleen-lung Qi deficiency,lung-kidney Qi deficiency,phlegm-turbidity obstructing lung syndrome,phlegm-heat congesting lung syndrome,CRP,IL-6,and TNF-α(adjusted R2=0.361).Conclusion TCM syndrome differentiation in COPD correlates with PD-1/PD-L1 levels, providing objective evidence for TCM classification and insights into integrative immunomodulatory therapies.

Yang Baolin's Clinical Experience in Treating Post-Stroke Limb Numbness Based on the"Nutrient-Defense Theory"
[Journal Article]YU Ruiyun, YANG Haihuan, YANG Baolin-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Limb numbness is a common sequela following stroke, and its persistence may significantly reduce patients'quality of life and increase psychological burden.Yang Baolin posits that post-stroke limb numbness results from deficiency or stagnation of nutrient, defense,Qi,and blood, leading to malnutrition of the skin and muscles, with the impairment of nutrient and defense as the key pathogenesis.Clinically, the basic treatment principle is to harmonize nutrient and defense. The modified Tongmai Heluo formula is applied to replenish the deficiency of nutrient and defense and unblock their stagnation, demonstrating significant efficacy in treating post-stroke limb numbness.

Exploration of Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment Strategies for Lung Cancer Complicated with Malignant Pleural Effusion Based on the Theory of"Xuan Fu,Qi,and Body Fluids"
[Journal Article]GU Yuanye, QIANG Ruonan, XU Zheyu et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Malignant pleural effusion is a common complication of advanced lung cancer, which significantly reduces patients'quality of life, shortens overall survival, and is associated with a poor prognosis. The theory of"Xuan Fu,Qi,and body fluids"was developed by Liu Wansu based on the Plain Questions, emphasizing that Xuan Fu should remain unobstructed as pathways for the movement of Qi and body fluids.Based on this theory, this article proposes that the occurrence of lung cancer complicated with malignant pleural effusion is initiated by the obstruction of Xuan Fu,with the stagnation of Qi and body fluids as the core pathogenesis. The disease course can be divided into acute, stable, and recovery stages. The acute stage focuses on symptom relief, employing treatments to warm Yang, activate blood circulation, promote diuresis, and open Xuan Fu.The stable stage aims to slow disease progression and guide recovery, using methods to strengthen the spleen to control water retention, remove stasis, and unblock Xuan Fu,thereby achieving the goal of"preventing deterioration after disease onset".The recovery stage prioritizes treating the primary disease to eliminate its root cause, employing strategies to consolidate lung function, regulate Xuan Fu,and stabilize the body's foundation, thereby accomplishing the objective of"preventing recurrence after recovery".Clinical case analyses are also provided to offer reference for syndrome differentiation and treatment in clinical practice.

Qingre Huoxue Formula Inhibits Inflammatory Injury in Collagen-Induced Arthritis Rats by Regulating METTL3
[Journal Article]LI Lu, ZHANG Xieyu, YANG Yue et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Objective To investigate the potential mechanism of Qingre Huoxue formula in treating rheumatoid arthritis(RA).Methods A collagen-induced arthritis(CIA)model was established using 30 SD rats, which were then randomly divided into a model group,a methotrexate group, and a Qingre Huoxue formula group. An additional 10 SD rats were used as a normal control group. The intervention lasted for 4 consecutive weeks.Assessment indicators included measuring joint swelling in rats every 3 days.At the end of the experiment, serum inflammatory markers—anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody(anti-CCP antibody),interleukin(IL)-10,and IL-17—were detected using ELISA.HE staining was used to observe pathological changes in ankle joints and synovial tissues.RT-qPCR and Western blot were employed to detect the gene and protein expression levels of methyltransferase-like protein 3(METTL3).Network pharmacology was used to analyze the effective active components of Qingre Huoxue formula in treating RA and to predict related pathway targets. Results Compared with the model group,Qingre Huoxue formula effectively reduced joint swelling in rats(P<0.01).HE staining showed that the synovial structure in the Qingre Huoxue formula group tended to be more regular, inflammatory infiltration was reduced, and joint damage was significantly alleviated.Inflammatory factor detection revealed downregulation of anti-CCP antibody and IL-17,and upregulation of IL-10 in the Qingre Huoxue formula group(P<0.05).RT-qPCR and Western blot results indicated that Qingre Huoxue formula effectively inhibited the overexpression of METTL3 at both mRNA and protein levels(P<0.05).Network pharmacology analysis showed that the potential core active components of Qingre Huoxue formula in treating RA mainly included quercetin,β-sitosterol,luteolin,stigmasterol,and apigenin.Key targets involved IL6,tumor necrosis factor(TNF),IL1B,AKT serine/threonine kinase 1(AKT1),signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3),among others.Gene Ontology(GO)and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)pathway enrichment analyses identified 177 related pathways, primarily involving inflammation and immune responses(IL-17 signaling pathway,TNF signaling pathway,Toll-like receptor signaling pathway,etc.).Conclusion This study suggests that Qingre Huoxue formula can effectively alleviate arthritis symptoms and pathological damage in CIA model rats. Its mechanism may be related to inhibiting METTL3-mediated RNA methylation and thereby regulating inflammatory signaling pathways.

Analysis of Medication Patterns and Potential New Formulations for Chest Pain and Heartache(Coronary Heart Disease)with Blood Stasis Syndrome Based on the Correlation of"Medicinal-Syndrome-Dosage"

Abstract:Objective To explore the compatibility patterns of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in treating chest pain and heartache(coronary heart disease)with blood stasis syndrome through data mining, providing a basis for clinical application and new drug development. Methods TCM prescriptions were collected and organized from the Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine Formulas and the preparation section of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China(2020 edition).Screening criteria were set to include effective TCM prescriptions, which were then standardized.Frequency statistics, cluster analysis, complex network analysis, and association rule algorithms were applied to analyze the core medications and formulation patterns for chest pain and heartache(coronary heart disease)with blood stasis syndrome. The Gephi ForceAtlas algorithm was used for the visual presentation of association analysis results. Results A total of 125 prescriptions for chest pain and heartache(coronary heart disease)with blood stasis syndrome were screened, involving 226 TCM medicinals with a total frequency of 846 occurrences. The medicinal properties were predominantly warm, with flavors mainly pungent, bitter, and sweet. The medicinals primarily targeted the spleen, liver, and heart meridians, with their main effects focusing on promoting blood circulation and removing stasis, tonifying deficiency, and regulating Qi.Cluster analysis yielded two new formulations, and eight core medicinals were identified, along with one core medicinal prescription.Modular analysis clearly demonstrated the association and compatibility relationships of high-frequency medicinals across various subtypes of blood stasis syndrome. The average dosage ratio of Danggui(Angelicae Sinensis Radix)to Danshen(Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma)was approximately 2·1 when used for Qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome or heart blood stasis obstruction syndrome. Conclusion Chest pain and heartache(coronary heart disease)with blood stasis syndrome is characterized by a deficiency in the root and excess in the manifestation, with compatibility emphasizing medicinals that promote blood circulation and remove stasis, tonify deficiency, and regulate Qi.The combination of Danggui and Danshen is the primary compatibility pair for preventing and treating chest pain and heartache(coronary heart disease)with blood stasis syndrome, with clinical recommendations for doubling the dosage of Danggui. This study provides new insights for the prevention and treatment of chest pain and heartache(coronary heart disease),as well as for the compatibility and dosage of new formulations.

Pathogenesis Evolution of Depression from the Perspective of"Earth Stagnation and Wood Depression"and the Intervention Mechanism of Xiaoyao San Based on the"Microbiota-Gut-Brain Axis"
[Journal Article]TONG Jiaxi, MA Qingyu, HAO Wenzhi et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Currently, the incidence of depression is increasing annually, placing it among the top global burden of diseases. In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),depression is classified under the category of"depression syndrome",with"earth stagnation and wood depression"being a key link in the evolution of its deficiency-excess pathogenesis.Modern research has found that gut microbiota dysbiosis can affect the emotional regulation function of the limbic system through neural, endocrine, immune, and metabolic pathways of the"microbiota-gut-brain axis"(MGBA),thereby inducing depression. The mapping and coupling between the pathogenesis of"earth stagnation and wood depression"and the biological mechanism of"gut microbiota-limbic system dysfunction"provide a new perspective on the modern scientific connotation of depression pathogenesis. The classic formula Xiaoyao San,adhering to the therapeutic principle of"fortifying the earth to nourish the wood",can alleviate depressive symptoms by correcting MGBA imbalances. This paper aims to integrate the TCM pathogenesis theory of"earth stagnation and wood depression"with the scientific connotation of the MGBA,systematically explaining the multi-target and multi-pathway mechanisms of Xiaoyao San in intervening in the MGBA to treat depression. It provides new insights and perspectives for the diagnosis and treatment of depression in both TCM and Western medicine.

Exploring the Holistic Regulation of Traditional Exercise Therapies on Somatic-Mental Comorbidity in Rheumatic Immune Diseases Based on the"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment"Theory
[Journal Article]WANG Ningyi, JIANG Quan, PENG Qiuwei et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:The"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment"theory in rheumatic immune diseases posits that the body and viscera are interconnected through the five elements, meridians,Qi,blood, body fluids, and the spirit-marrow system, forming the characteristics of"body impediment affecting the viscera, visceral impediment affecting the body, and combined body-viscera impediment".The body, located externally, serves as the outward manifestation and extension of the viscera.By regulating the body, the physiological functions of the viscera can be restored. This paper argues that somatic-mental comorbidity is a specific clinical manifestation of"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment".Traditional exercise therapies regulate the limbs and skeleton through physical movements and improve the state of the viscera through breathing techniques, representing a practical approach to"nourishing the viscera through the body".Based on the"Body-Viscera Combined Impediment"theory, this paper explains the mechanisms and traditional Chinese medicine pathogenesis of somatic-mental comorbidity in rheumatic immune diseases and explores the specific applications of traditional exercise therapies in regulating conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, chronic fatigue, and cognitive impairment in rheumatic immune diseases. This provides new insights for the clinical prevention and treatment of somatic-mental comorbidity in rheumatic immune diseases.

Zhao Hengxia's Experience in Treating Diabetic Retinopathy with the"Gentle and Unblocking"Syndrome Differentiation Approach
[Journal Article]GUO Yihui, TAN Kaiyan, ZHANG Pengxiang et al.-Chinese Journal of Basic Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine2026, No.03

Abstract:Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is one of the most common and serious microvascular complications of diabetes.Western medicine treatments, such as laser therapy, vitrectomy, drug injections, and oral calcium dobesilate, have limited duration of effectiveness, numerous adverse effects, and risks including retinal damage and infection.Professor Zhao Hengxia believes that the pathogenesis of DR is fundamentally rooted in deficiencies of the liver, spleen, kidney, and Sanjiao, with water retention and the transformation of stasis and toxins as secondary manifestations.Considering the elevated position of the eyes, she advocates the use of gentle and refined medications to rectify the secondary manifestations and restore order.Simultaneously, based on the strengths and weaknesses of the viscera, she emphasizes replenishing deficiencies and promoting unblocking to address the root cause.By flexibly formulating prescriptions and applying syndrome differentiation, she achieves both symptomatic and root-cause treatment, collectively contributing to nourishing and brightening the eyes.Combined with daily care such as diet and exercise,as well as herbal eye fumigation, significant clinical efficacy is observed. This article summarizes the experience of Professor Zhao Hengxia,a renowned traditional Chinese medicine physician in Shenzhen,in treating DR,and includes a representative case study.
