Abstract:Bacillus cereus is a member of genus Bacillus, and is closely associated with human because it can cause foodborne diseases. This article overviews the pathogenic characteristics and pathogenicity of Bacillus cereus, and the epidemiological characteris-tics of Bacillus cereus foodborne diseases, so as to put forward suggestions on scientific measures to prevent and control food contamina-tion with Bacillus cereus and to protect public health.
Abstract:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease has been regarded as the predominant chronic liver disease worldwide and its prevalence varies from different ethics, countries and districts. The risk factors of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease include obesity, metabolic syndrome, lifestyle, genetic factor and sarcopenia. At present, the prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in Asia is similar to that of western countries, but the epidemiological characteristics are still different from those in western countries. The non-obese non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is highly prevalent in Asia than in the western countries, and the incidence is related to genetic factors. Chronic hepatitis B concomitant of fatty liver is also an epidemiological feature of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in Asia.
Abstract:HBV infection and HBV-related diseases have caused tremendous burden on public health and economic develop-ment in China. Although great efforts in the prevention and treatment of HBV infection have been made in China, we are still facing big challenges in antiviral therapy of HBV infection. This review focuses on current status of research on hepatitis B and it preven-tion and treatment in China.
Abstract:Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a severe, often fatal illness in humans, with high infectivity, high pathogenicity and high mortality rate. It first appeared in 1976, and several outbreaks of EVD have occurred in Western and Central Africa, with a case fatality rate of 50%-90%. However, no licensed vaccine and antiviral agent for EVD are available for use. The outbreak occur-ring in Western Africa in 2014 is the most severe outbreak of EVD in history, and the number of the infected and dead cases is lar-ger than the total number of those cases in the previous outbreaks of EVD. WHO declared the 2014 Ebola outbreak to be an inter-national public health emergency, and currently, international public health and medical settings are making common efforts to com-bat this virulent disease. The authors of this article summarize the research advances in EVD and the features of the 2014 Ebola out-break.
Abstract:The infectious diseases are diversiform in clinical manifestation due to the complex pathogenic factors. A rapid, comprehensive and accurate approach to identify pathogenic agents is the prerequisite for clinicians to take active treatment timely and specifically. However, traditional diagnostic methods are limited in detecting small range, time-consuming and complicated operations, which are not suitable for the treatment of infectious diseases at present. The metagenomic sequencing technology is applied to obtain the whole genome sequence of a pathogen without pathogen culture and directly detect the pathogen that causes the infectious diseases. The metagenomic sequencing is a valuable approach in detecting rare infectious diseases. In this study, we review the latest research progress and application of metagenomic sequencing in detecting the pathogens of infectious diseases.
