Abstract:One-dimensional atomic/molecular chains have attracted the attentions of researchers due to their distinct structures and properties compared to those of bulk materials. This article investigates the high-temperature structural transformations of iodine chains confined in one-dimensional subnano channels of aluminophosphate molecular sieve A1PO4-11.As temperature increases, the confined iodine chains do not exhibit a three-phase transition similar to solid iodine, but instead undergo a decomposition from long chains to shorter chains, and the iodine molecules"lying"along the channel axis.Ultimately, they escape from the channels.During this precess, the degree of disorder in the iodine chains increases.Based on the temperature-dependent full width at half-maximum(FWHM)of the iodine chains, the estimated activation energy for the confined iodine chains is approximately 0.046 eV,which is similar to the calculated energy barrier that needs to be overcome for the translational movement of"lying"molecules.
