Abstract:To investigate the effect of the forming structure of carbon honeycomb composites on their compression performance, carbon honeycomb composites with the same geometric dimensions and three different forming structures(1D unidirectional layering,2D fabric layering, and 3D woven integrated forming structure)were prepared.Compression performance tests were conducted to compare and analyze the compression resistance of the three types of composites. The results reveal that the out-of-plane compression strengths of all three composites have little difference and all are much higher than the in-plane compression strengths(approximately 10 times or more). However, significant variations are observed in their in-plane compression performance. The unidirectional one-dimensional honeycomb composite exhibited 40%and 36%respectively higher compression strength in the in-plane X-direction compared to that of the two-dimensional and three dimensional composites. In the in-plane Y-direction,the three-dimensional woven composite demonstrates superior performance, with compression strength 20%and 39%respectively greater than that of the unidirectional and two-dimensional composites. Moreover, due to the effect of the interlayer binding yarns, interlayer cracking damage can be effectively inhibited. The study indicates that the 3D woven integrated forming structure plays a positive role in improving the compression resistance of honeycomb composites.
