Abstract:In recent years, antibiotic pollution has become a global environmental issue. The accumu-lation of antibiotics in water not only threatens the stability of ecosystems but also increases the risk of the spread of antibiotic resistance genes, posing a long-term hazard to human health. Therefore, developing efficient and environmentally friendly technologies to remove antibiotics from the environ-ment has become an important research focus.Biochar,a stable porous carbon material produced from the pyrolysis, gasification,or hydrothermal carbonization of biomass, possesses a high specific surface area and rich surface functional groups, demonstrating significant antibiotic removal capabilities.Studies have shown that biochar can achieve removal efficiencies exceeding 90%for sulfonamides,tet-racyclines,and quinolones. This paper reviews the research progress of biochar in the field of antibi-otic removal, analyzing its preparation and modification technologies, removal effects, and mecha-nisms of action, while also discussing the key factors influencing removal efficiency.Despite its prom-ising potential in antibiotic remediation, biochar still faces challenges such as high costs and insuffi-cient long-term stability.
