Abstract:The availability of research data on the potential ecological risks posed by microplastics in sludge pollutant remains limited. In this study, field sampling and Raman spectrum analysis were em-ployed to determine the composition of microplastics in sludge obtained from six water plants located in Zhengzhou City. The findings revealed that the abundance of microplastics ranged from 8 000 to 14 250 n/kg,with an average abundance of 10 566 n/kg.Moreover,it was observed that sludge in waste water treatment plants contained higher quantities of microplastics compared to drinking water treatment plants.Specifically, fibrous dominated in sludge in drinking water treatment plants while granular prevailed in waste water treatment plants.Furthermore, calculations based on the pollutant hazard index indicated that two out of the six water plants exhibited a level IV,whereas the remaining four displayed a level III.Furthermore, assessments using the potential ecological risk index demon-strated significant potential risks associated with microplastic contamination in the sludge from two water plants.
