Application of Seawater in the Dyeing Process of Wool Fabric

Abstract：Untreated and softened seawater was used in the dyeing and rinsing process of wool fabric with weak acid dyes,dye-uptake speed of dyeing process, K/S value,fastness to rubbing and breaking strength of dyed and washed with seawater were measured. Results show that dye-uptake rate speed of Acid Red is higher that in tape water, espe-cially in softened seawater, where dye-uptake rate is 96. 7% with the similar uptake speed with that in tape water. The K/S value and crockfastnes of fabric dyed and washed in seawater is about the same with that in tape water, and the strength of fabrics dyed in seawater is higher. Seawater can be used in the dyeing and washing process of wool fabrics with acid dyes.
