Abstract:In this paper, the couple stress theory is adopted to describe the constitutive response of the layered rock mass, and the mesh-free method is employed to carry out the numerical simulation for the layered rock mass. Since the moving least-square approximation can produce the shape functions with the higher-order continuum, the strain and the curvature are directly interpolated with the nodal displacements, and the mesh-free computational scheme can be eas-ily established. The numerical simulation is carried out for the underground cavity in the layered rock mass, and the effi-ciency of the couple stress theory and mesh-free method is studied and the effect of scale factor is discussed.
