Abstract:Objective: To explore the mediating role of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the association between lipid abnormalities and coronary heart disease (CHD). Methods: A retrospective case-control study design was used. A total of 302 patients with CHD diagnosed by coronary angiography were selected as the observation group, and 265 healthy individuals undergoing physical examination were selected as the control group. Baseline data between the two groups were compared. Logistic regression models were used to analyze the risk factors for CHD, and linear regression models were used to analyze the association between baseline data and CRP. The mediating effect of CRP in the association between lipid abnormalities and CHD was analyzed using a mediation effect model. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of the proportion of hypertension, diabetes, lipid abnormalities, age, body mass index (BMI), CRP, white blood cell count, uric acid, cystatin C, albumin, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that hypertension, diabetes, lipid abnormalities, BMI, and CRP were risk factors for CHD (P < 0.05). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that lipid abnormalities and albumin were associated with CRP (P < 0.05). After adjusting for confounding factors, mediation analysis showed that CRP played a partial mediating role in the association between lipid abnormalities and CHD, with a mediation effect value of 0.081 [95% CI (0.032, 0.147)], and a mediation effect proportion of 26.13%. Conclusion: CRP plays a partial mediating role in the association between lipid abnormalities and CHD.
