Systematic Review of the Effectiveness of the Tonifying Qi and Unblocking Meridians Method in the Intervention of Atherosclerosis Model in ApoE-/-Mice

Abstract：Objective:To evaluate the therapeutic effect of the traditional Chinese medicine compound formula of the tonifying Qi and unblocking meridians method in treating the atherosclerosis model of ApoE-knockout(ApoE-/-)mice.Methods:The databases of China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang Data,VIP Journal Database,PubMed,and Cochrane Library were searched from the establishment of the database to November 7,2023.The quality of the literature was evaluated using the SYRCLE tool.Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager.Results:The comparative study of traditional Chinese medicine compound prescriptions and the control group involved 12 items.The comparative study of traditional Chinese medicine compound and statin group included 10 items.The comparison of outcome indicators showed that the traditional Chinese medicine combination could reduce the area of atherosclerotic plaques in the mouse model(MD=-20.33,95%CI-27.18--13.47,P＜0.000 01),lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)(MD=-3.60,95%CI-6.25--0.95,P=0.008),lower total cholesterol(TC)(MD=-7.55,95%CI-14.01--1.10,P=0.02),increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)(MD=0.82,95%CI 0.36-1.27,P=0.000 4),and lower triglycerides(TG)(MD=-0.86,95%CI-1.25--0.48,P＜0.000 1].The area of atherosclerotic plaques between the positive control statin group and the traditional Chinese medicine compound group were still unstable.There was no statistically significant difference in LDL-C,TC,HDL-C,and TG between the two groups(P＞0.05).Conclusion:This study demonstrates that the traditional Chinese medicine compound of the tonifying Qi and unblocking meridians method can significantly improve the lipid metabolism of the atherosclerosis model in ApoE-/-mice,reduce the area of atherosclerotic plaques,with a definite therapeutic effect on atherosclerosis.Moreover,compared with the positive control group of statins,there is no statistically significant difference in improving lipid indicators.
