Clinical Study of Bugan Decoction Combined with Flunarizine Hydrochloride Capsules on Migraine with Hepatic Blood Deficiency

Abstract:Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of flunarizine hydrochloride capsules combined with Bugan Decoction in treating migraine associated with hepatic blood deficiency.Methods:A total of 120 patients with migraine due to liver blood deficiency syndrome who were admitted to Dongzhimen Hospital,Beijing University of Chinese Medicine,from September 2021 to February 2024 were selected as research subjects.According to the random number table method,the patients were divided into the traditional Chinese medicine group,the Western medicine group,and the combined treatment group,with 40 cases in each group.The patients in the Western medicine group received flunarizine hydrochloride capsules,the patients in the traditional Chinese medicine group were administered Bugan Decoction orally,and the patients in the combined treatment group received both Bugan Decoction and flunarizine hydrochloride capsules orally.The treatment duration was 8 weeks.Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)scores,Migraine-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire(MSQ)scores,and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36)were evaluated in the three groups of patients before treatment,at 4 weeks of treatment,and at 8 weeks of treatment.The levels of serum 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)and endothelin-1(ET-1)in patients were measured.The therapeutic effects in the three groups were compared.Results:The total effective rates of the therapeutic effects on TCM syndromes in the combined treatment group,Western medicine group,and traditional Chinese medicine group were 82.5%,43.6%,and 67.5%,respectively.The total effective rate of the therapeutic effects on TCM syndromes in the combined treatment group was higher than those in the Western medicine group and the traditional Chinese medicine group(P<0.05).The VAS scores of the three groups after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment were lower than those before treatment(P<0.05),and the MSQ and SF-36 scores were higher than those before treatment(P<0.05).After 4 and 8 weeks of treatment,the levels of 5-HT and ET-1 in the three groups were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05).The levels of 5-HT and ET-1 in the combined treatment group were lower than those in the Western medicine group and the traditional Chinese medicine group after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion:Bugan Decoction combined with flunarizine hydrochloride capsules can effectively relieve migraine symptoms and improve quality of life.
