Abstract:Objective: To explore the mediating effect of depressive mood between self-efficacy and quality of life in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods: A total of 759 patients diagnosed with chronic heart failure who were hospitalized in the cardiology department of three tertiary general hospitals in Shanxi Province from June 2017 to May 2020 were selected sequentially. Basic information of the patients was collected using a self-designed general information questionnaire. The General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) was used to assess the patients' self-efficacy level, the Patient Health Questionnaire Depression Scale (PHQ-9) was used to evaluate the patients' depressive mood, and the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) was used to assess the patients' quality of life. A mediation model was constructed to analyze the mediating effect of depressive mood between self-efficacy and quality of life in patients with chronic heart failure. Results: There was a negative correlation between GSES scores and PHQ-9 scores (r = -0.098); PHQ-9 scores were negatively correlated with KCCQ scores (r = -0.406); and GSES scores were positively correlated with KCCQ scores (r = 0.305). Depressive mood had a partial mediating effect between patients' self-efficacy and quality of life. Conclusion: Depressive mood has a partial mediating effect between patients' self-efficacy and quality of life. Improving patients' understanding of their disease to enhance their self-efficacy can help alleviate depressive mood and thus improve quality of life.
