Abstract:Objective: To explore the correlation between the changes in growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in the acute phase of acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Methods: A total of 80 STEMI patients admitted to Tianmen City People's Hospital from October 2022 to April 2023 were selected and divided into a poor prognosis group (29 cases) and a good prognosis group (51 cases) based on whether MACE occurred. The general characteristics and serum levels of GDF-15 and IL-6 were compared between the two groups. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to predict the relationship between serum GDF-15 and IL-6 levels and MACE. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in general characteristics such as age, gender, and body mass index (BMI) between the two groups (P > 0.05). On the day of admission, day 1, and day 7, the GDF-15 levels in the poor prognosis group were significantly higher than those in the good prognosis group (P < 0.05). On the day of admission, day 1, day 3, day 5, and day 7, the IL-6 levels in the poor prognosis group were significantly higher than those in the good prognosis group (P < 0.05). Correlation analysis showed that the expression levels of GDF-15 and IL-6 were positively correlated with the occurrence of MACE (P < 0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that GDF-15 and IL-6 levels at different time points could be used to predict the occurrence of MACE. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) for GDF-15 at different time points were 0.707, 0.678, 0.638, 0.634, and 0.696 (P < 0.05), while the AUC for IL-6 at different time points were 0.698, 0.706, 0.700, 0.665, and 0.648 (P < 0.05). Conclusion: GDF-15 and IL-6 have certain clinical value in predicting the occurrence and prognosis of MACE in STEMI patients, and GDF-15 has better sensitivity than IL-6.
