Abstract:This paper reviews the research progress of Buyang Huanwu Decoction and its single herbal components in the treatment of vascular dementia (VD), aiming to provide references for the clinical application and subsequent research on the mechanisms of action of Buyang Huanwu Decoction and its single herbal components in the treatment of VD. It is found that the possible mechanisms of Buyang Huanwu Decoction in treating VD may be related to antioxidant stress, inhibition of inflammatory responses, regulation of neurotransmitter levels, regulation of synaptic plasticity, protection of neurons, and improvement of cerebral circulation. The main components of the single herbs in Buyang Huanwu Decoction for the treatment of VD include isorhamnetin, ferulic acid, ligustilide, angelica polysaccharide, chuanxiongzine, peoniflorin, safflower yellow pigment, and lumbrokinase. These components can improve the clinical symptoms of patients with VD through mechanisms such as anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant damage, regulation of apoptosis and autophagy, adjustment of the cholinergic system, reversal of Ca2+ overload, and inhibition of cell toxicity.
