Abstract:This review summarizes the mechanisms by which traditional Chinese medicine improves the inflammatory microenvironment and promotes myelin regeneration through balancing glial cell polarization, inhibiting inflammatory factors, and regulating signaling pathways. Most research on neural repair after stroke has focused on gray matter neurons, with less attention paid to the restoration of white matter integrity. After ischemic stroke, white matter integrity is damaged, leading to demyelination and neurological dysfunction. White matter is composed of mature oligodendrocytes that wrap axons to form myelin. Oligodendrocyte progenitor cells are stem cells in the central nervous system, and their ability to regenerate new myelin makes them a target for neural repair after stroke. Traditional Chinese medicine can exert its therapeutic effects by regulating the inflammatory microenvironment after ischemic stroke to promote myelin regeneration.
