Abstract:Myocardial ischemia is a pathological state characterized by reduced blood and oxygen supply to the heart, with abnormal energy metabolism in the myocardium, commonly occurring in middle-aged and elderly populations. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are hot topics in the field of therapeutic angiogenesis, playing an important role in the process of cardiac collateral circulation through their potential to differentiate into endothelial cells. The theory of 'Kidney Stores Essence' is a core concept in the TCM theory of zang-fu organs. There is a strong similarity and high correlation between kidney essence and EPCs, MSCs in terms of connotation and function. TCM formulas and/or combinations based on the principle of tonifying the kidney and replenishing essence, supplemented by methods such as invigorating qi, nourishing blood, and moistening yin, can promote angiogenesis, improve myocardial ischemia, and significantly reduce the readmission rate and mortality rate of patients with cardiovascular diseases. This paper explores the impact of angiogenesis on myocardial ischemia and the research progress on TCM intervention from the perspective of the 'Kidney Stores Essence' theory, further clarifying the mechanism of angiogenesis, aiming to provide reference ideas for the treatment of related diseases with TCM.
