Efficacy of Baoyuan Decoction and Taohong Decoction Combined with Metoprolol Succinate in the Treatment of Elderly Patients with Ischemic Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure

Abstract：Objective: To explore the efficacy of Baoyuan Decoction combined with Taohong Drink in the treatment of elderly patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Methods: A total of 120 elderly patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and heart failure who were treated at Hubei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 2021 to September 2022 were selected. According to the random number table method, the patients were divided into a control group (routine treatment + metoprolol succinate) and an observation group (routine treatment + metoprolol succinate + Baoyuan Decoction combined with Taohong Drink), with 60 patients in each group. The clinical efficacy, cardiac function levels, 6-minute walk test distance, and myocardial fibrosis markers were compared between the two groups. Results: The clinical effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05), while the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) and left ventricular end-systolic diameter (LVESD) were lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05). The 6-minute walk test distance of the observation group was longer than that of the control group (P < 0.05), and the TCM syndrome score was lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The levels of soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 protein (sST2) and galectin-3 (Gal-3) were also lower in the observation group compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Baoyuan Decoction combined with Taohong Drink plus metoprolol succinate shows good efficacy in treating elderly patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and heart failure, effectively improving their cardiac function, exercise tolerance, and clinical symptoms, and inhibiting the progression of myocardial fibrosis.
