Abstract:Objective:To compare the effects of Chinese patent medicines with or without borneol in combination with conventional treatment,on ventricular remodeling and heart function after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI).Methods:PubMed,Web of Science,EMbase,Cochrane Library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),WanFang Data,VIP,and SinoMed were searched from database inception to March 2024 for randomized controlled trials(RCTs)on Chinese patent medicines(with or without borneol)combined with conventional treatment for AMI patients undergoing PCI.The efficacy of Chinese patent medicines with or without borneol was indirectly compared using ITC software. Results:Both Chinese patent medicines with or without borneol significantly improved ventricular remodeling and heart function compared with conventional treatment alone.Indirect comparison showed that although no statistical differences were found in the effects of Chinese patent medicines containing borneol on left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD)(MD=-1.17,95%CI-1.78--0.56,P=0.36),left ventricular end-systolic diameter(LVESD)(MD=-0.93,95%CI-2.30-0.44,P=0.94),and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)(MD=-0.88,95%CI-2.04-0.28,P=0.82),but there was some trends suggesting Chinese patent medicines containing borneol in improving LVEDD.Conclusion:Both traditional Chinese medicine with borneol and that without borneol, with conventional treatment, can significantly improve ventricular remodeling and cardiac function in patients with AMI after PCI.Although no statistical differences were found,Chinese patent medicines containing borneol may have an advantage in improving LVEDD.Future studies with direct comparisons are needed to verify the efficacy differences between these two formulations and to explore the potential synergistic effects of borneol.
