Abstract:Based on the theory of 'Lung and Large Intestine as Interior-Exterior Companions', this study explores the role of gut microbiota in pulmonary arterial hypertension and related research on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) intervention. Gut microbiota plays an important role in the occurrence and development of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Pulmonary arterial hypertension can lead to increased endotoxins from intestinal bacteria and reduced levels of metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids, increased trimethylamine N-oxide, and elevated 5-hydroxytryptamine, which in turn promote the progression of pulmonary arterial hypertension. This pathological feature is consistent with the classical TCM theory of 'Lung and Large Intestine as Interior-Exterior Companions'. Current studies have found that single herbs such as Rhodiola rosea, Astragalus membranaceus, and Salvia miltiorrhiza, as well as TCM compound prescriptions like Ge Gen Qin Lian Decoction and Shen Ling Bai Zhu San, show certain efficacy in regulating gut microbiota and intervening in pulmonary arterial hypertension.
