Abstract:Objective: To investigate the expression of serum hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), Klotho, and inflammatory factors in elderly hypertensive patients with cognitive impairment and their clinical significance. Methods: A total of 106 elderly hypertensive patients admitted between June 2020 and July 2022 were selected and divided into a cognitive impairment group (35 cases) and a cognitive normal group (71 cases) based on whether they had cognitive dysfunction. The levels of serum HIF-1α, Klotho, interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-10, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were compared between the two groups. Results: The levels of HIF-1α, IL-6, IL-10, and hs-CRP were higher in the cognitive impairment group than in the cognitive normal group, while Klotho was lower, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.001). Elevated levels of HIF-1α, IL-6, IL-10, and hs-CRP and decreased Klotho may be risk factors for cognitive impairment in elderly hypertensive patients (P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) for HIF-1α, Klotho, IL-6, IL-10, and hs-CRP were 0.773, 0.854, 0.859, 0.648, and 0.764 (P < 0.05), with sensitivities of 51.40%, 94.30%, 91.40%, 48.60%, and 51.40%, and specificities of 90.10%, 63.40%, 74.60%, 100.00%, and 100.00%, respectively. Conclusion: Serum HIF-1α, Klotho, IL-6, IL-10, and hs-CRP are abnormally expressed in elderly hypertensive patients with cognitive impairment, and their abnormal expression may influence the development of cognitive impairment in these patients.
