Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of supervised exercise training-based cardiac rehabilitation on changes in peak VO2 in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). Methods: A total of 40 CHD patients treated at our hospital between June 2021 and June 2022 were randomly divided into two groups (1:1) - the supervised exercise training group (n=20) and the conventional training group (n=20). The primary outcome measure was the change in peak VO2 at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months follow-up. Secondary endpoints included other measurements from cardiopulmonary maximal exercise testing, heart function, body mass index, body composition, respiratory muscle strength (measured by pressure), and blood tests (lipids). Results: At 3 months and 6 months, the adherence rate of the supervised exercise training group was higher than that of the conventional training group (x2 values of 5.625 and 6.144, P values of 0.017 and 0.013, respectively). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse events between the two groups during the trial (P > 0.05). During the follow-up period, peak VO2 increased in the supervised exercise training group, while it decreased in the conventional training group, resulting in a more pronounced reduction in VO2 in the conventional training group after 6 months (F = 4.566, P < 0.05). Compared with the conventional training group, the supervised exercise training group showed significant increases in maximum speed and slope, stroke oxygen consumption, and maximum minute ventilation (VE), as well as a reduction in functional aerobic injury (P < 0.05). At 6 months, there were statistically significant differences in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels between the two groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Compared with conventional training, supervised exercise training is more beneficial for maintaining peak VO2 in patients with CHD and can improve their exercise capacity and tolerance.
