Research Progress on the Relationship between Mitochondrial Autophagy Receptor FUNDC1 and Hypoxic Pulmonary Hypertension

Abstract:This review discusses the relationship between FUN14 domain-containing protein 1 (FUNDC1) and hypoxic pulmonary hypertension, aiming to provide new clues and ideas for the treatment of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension. Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension is the most common type of pulmonary hypertension. Currently, the clinical drug efficacy is still insufficient to meet the needs of diagnosis and treatment, so it is necessary to further clarify its pathogenesis from a new perspective to provide new insights for diagnosis and treatment. In recent years, research on mitochondrial autophagy in hypoxic adaptation has been relatively extensive, and it has been confirmed that mitochondrial autophagy is closely related to the occurrence and development of pulmonary diseases. FUNDC1, as a novel mitochondrial autophagy receptor protein, stably exists in the mitochondrial membrane in a phosphorylated form under physiological conditions, and induces mitochondrial autophagy under hypoxic conditions.
