Abstract:Objective: To investigate the efficacy of Sizi Huatan Fuyuan Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine in treating heart failure in elderly patients with chronic pulmonary heart disease (CPHD) and its effects on serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 280 elderly patients with CPHD complicated with heart failure (HF) admitted to our hospital between January 2021 and January 2023. The patients were divided into a conventional treatment group (130 cases) and a combined traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment group (150 cases). The conventional treatment group received conventional bronchodilation, oxygen therapy, cardiotonic, and diuretic treatments, while the combined treatment group received Sizi Huatan Fuyuan Decoction in addition to conventional treatment. The differences in clinical efficacy, TCM syndrome scores, cardiac function efficacy, pulmonary function [forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow rate (PEF), and FEV1/FVC], and serum hs-CRP and NT-proBNP levels between the two groups were compared. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of the combined treatment group was 87.33%, higher than that of the conventional treatment group at 76.15% (P < 0.05). After treatment, the TCM syndrome scores of both groups decreased, with the combined treatment group showing a lower score than the conventional treatment group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the serum hs-CRP and NT-proBNP levels of both groups decreased, with the combined treatment group showing lower levels than the conventional treatment group (P < 0.05). The improvement in cardiac function in the combined treatment group was better than that in the conventional treatment group (P < 0.05). After treatment, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, and PEF increased in both groups, with the combined treatment group showing higher values than the conventional treatment group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Sizi Huatan Fuyuan Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine can alleviate clinical symptoms in elderly patients with CPHD complicated with HF, reduce serum hs-CRP and NT-proBNP levels, and improve their cardiopulmonary function.
