Abstract:Objective: To explore the correlation between atmospheric particulate matter (PM2.5) and the incidence of acute coronary syndrome. Methods: Data on patients hospitalized for acute coronary syndrome at Shijiazhuang No. 2 Hospital from January 1, 2018, to December 12, 2020, were collected, along with PM2.5 monitoring data released by the environmental protection department of Shijiazhuang City. The correlation between the daily PM2.5 concentration changes and the number of hospitalizations for acute coronary syndrome over the same period during the three years was analyzed. Results: A total of 18,615 hospitalizations occurred due to acute coronary syndrome from 2018 to 2020. The daily average PM2.5 concentration was 68.7 μg/m³. PM2.5 showed an effect on the same day of hospitalization (lag0) for patients with acute coronary syndrome, with the maximum single-day effect occurring at lag1, where the excess risk (ER) value was 2.06, 95% CI (0.61, 3.25). In the dual-pollutant model, the relationship between daily hospitalizations for acute coronary syndrome and PM2.5 was examined at lag1, the time when the effect was most significant. The results showed that nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and carbon monoxide (CO) could increase the effect of PM2.5 on daily hospitalizations for acute coronary syndrome, with P < 0.05 and statistical significance. Conclusion: The concentration of PM2.5 in Shijiazhuang City is positively correlated with the number of hospitalizations due to acute coronary syndrome, with a certain lag effect, and the effect at lag1 is the most significant. Additionally, there is a synergistic interaction among the dual-pollutant models.
