Therapeutic Effect of Chinese Medicine Fomentation on Limb Function Recovery in Patients with Upper Limb Spasticity after Stroke

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of Chinese medicine fomentation on limb function recovery in patients with upper limb spasticity after stroke.Methods Sixty patients with upper limb spasticity after stroke from June 2014 to May 2015in the department of rehabilitation,Shunyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were randomly divided into two groups:control group(n =30) treated with routine rehabilitation treatment,and treatment group(n =30)treated with Chinese medicine fomentation in the basis of routine rehabilitation treatment for 4 weeks.The modified Ashworth Scale(MAS)was used to assess the improvement of upper limb paralysis in patients,and Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA)was used to assess the upper limb motor function.Results After treatment, the scores of MAS and FMA were improved in two groups(P <0.05),which were better in treatment group than that in control group(P <0.05).Conclusion Chinese medicine fomentation and rehabilitation can improve upper limb spasticity and function in patients with upper limb spasticity after stroke
