Abstract:Objective To study correlation of serum homocysteine with renal function in patients with hypertension. Methods Two hundreds and six patients with hypertension were divided into normal Hcy group (group A,Hcy≤ 15 μmol/L) and high Hcy group (group B,Hcy> 15 μmol/L) according to serum homocysteine level. The blood routine, biochemical, and serum homocysteine were tested and compared between two gropes.Result8 The concentration of serum homocysteine, creatinine, urea nitrogen, and uric acid in group B was higher than that in group A (P <0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum homocysteine was significant-ly positive correlated with creatinine (r =0.227,P =0.001),urea nitrogen (r =0.517,P =0.000),and uric acid (r =0.388,P =0.000).Conclusion Serum homocysteine plays an important role in renal injury in patients with hypertension. The levels of serum homocys teine with creatinine, urea nitrogen and uric acid are closely related.
