Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) level and carotid plaque in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease (ICVD).Methods Five hundreds and ten ICVD patients (aged from 40 to 80 years old) among out-patients and in-patients of Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital from December 2014 to June 2016 were sellected as study subjects. The levels of SUA and blood lipid were measured.According to the results of carotid artery ultrasound, the patients were divided into plaque group (P group) and plaque-free group (PF group). There were 268 patients in P group and 242 patients in PF group. The multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the factors affecting the occurrence of plaque. The patients were also divided into unstable plaque group (UP group) and stable plaque group (SP group) according to the nature of plaque.SUA level of each group was compared with others. Results There were significant differences in age, obesity prevalence, total cholesterol (TC) and SUA levels between the two groups (P <0.05).The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that age, obesity,TC,SUA were independent risk factors for the incidence of carotid plaques. There were significant differences in SUA levels between PF group and UP group (P <0.05),between SP group and UP group (P <0.05).Conclusion The high level of SUA was significantly correlated with the occurrence of carotid plaques, and the higher SUA levels have a significant relationship with unstable carotid plaque in ICVD patients.Old age, obesity, high levels of TC and SUA are risk factors for the occurrence of carotid plaque.
