Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of Baiai capsule (BAC) and routine treatment on insulin resistance and glycolipid metabolism in hypertensive patients complicated with metabolic syndrome (MetS).Methods Seventy-four hypertensive patients complicated with MetS were randomly divided into control group (n =40) treated with placebo plus routine treatment, and treatment group (n =34) treated with BAC plus routine treatment for 12 weeks. The changes of blood pressure,steady-state insulin resistance index, blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAtc),blood lipid, physical index, clinical symptoms and signs and safety indexes were observed during the treatment. Results After treatment, the levels of body mass index (BMI),2 h postprandial glucose (2 h PPG) and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in treatment group were significantly lower than those before (P <0.05).There was no significant difference in fasting plasma glucose (FPG),HbA1c and fasting insulin (FINS),but it showed a downward trend.Triglycerides (TG) level was decreased significantly in treatment group while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level was increased significantly (P <0.05).There was significant difference in BMI,TG and HDL-C between two groups after treatment (P <0.05).Conclusion BAC can reduce HOMA-IR,improve insulin resistance and body mass index, and regulate glucose and lipid metabolism in hypertensive patients complicated with MetS.
