Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between plasma homocysteine (Hcy) level and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)syndromes of essential hypertension (EH).Methods The clinical data of 617 patients with EH diagnosed in China-Japan Friendship Hospital from January 2013 to February 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. Results The plasma Hcy level of male was significantly higher than that of female plasma Hcy level, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.01).There was difference in plasma Hcy level between patients with phlegm-dampness syndrome and the other three TCM syndrome groups (P <0.05).There was no significant difference among the other three syndromes (P >0.05).There was a significant difference between the grade 3 hypertension patients plasma Hcy level and plasma Hcy level in patients with grade 1 hypertension (P <0.05).There was a significant difference between grade 3 hypertension patients plasma Hcy level and plasma Hcy level in patients with grade 2 hypertension (P < 0.05).There was no significant difference in plasma Hcy level between patients with simple hypertension and those with combined cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (P =0.051).Conclusion The plasma Hcy level was higher in hypertensive patients with phlegm dampness syndrome.Plasma Hcy levels were higher in men with hypertension than in women. The plasma Hcy level was high-er in patients with high blood pressure, and the risk of cardia-cerebral events was higher too.
