Abstract:Objective To observe the effects of Tenuigenin (TEN) on the expression of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit alpha-7 (nAChRa7) in hippocampus of epilepsy model rats, and investigate the underlying mechanisms of TEN in relieving secondary cognitive disorder. Methods Male wistar rats were randomly divided into control group, model group, and tenuigenin group. The expression of nAChRa7 in the hippocampus CA1 area was measured by immunohistochemistry method. Results Compared with the control groupthe expression of nAChRa7 in the hippocampus CA1 area were decreased significantly in the model group (P <0.05).Compared with the model group, the expression of nAChRa7 in the hippocarnpus CA1 area were increased significantly in TEN group (P <0.05).Conclusion TEN could increase the expression of nAChRa7 in the hippocampus CA1 area in epilepsy model rat, which may partly explain the beneficial effects of TEN on cognitive function.
