Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome, tongue appearance and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP),advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in elderly patients with diabetic cardiovascular disease. Methods Eighty-nine patients with diabetic cardiovascular disease were enrolled. The TCM syndrome, tongue appearance were observed. The levels of hs-CRP,AGEs were observed. Results The main TCM syndrome was phlegm retained in heart vessels, followed by qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. The levels of UA/Cr,AGEs and hs-CRP were significantly higher in phlegm retained in heart vessels group and qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome group than that in various other syndromes group (P <0.05).The main tongue body was dark red tongue, followed by purple tongue. The levels of UA/Cr,AGEs and hs-CRP were significantly higher in dark red tongue group and purple tongue group than that in various other tongue body group (P <0.05).The main tongue coating was white thick fur, followed by yellow thick fur.The levels of UA/Cr,AGEs and hs-CRP were significantly higher in white thick fur group and thick yellow fur group than that in various other tongue coating group (P <0.05).Correlation analysis showed that TCM syndromes, tongue body and coating were positively correlated with AGEs and hs-CRP levels. Conclusion The main TCM syndrome were phlegm retained in heart vessels,qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, the main tongue body were dark red tongue and purple tongue, and the main tongue coating were white thick fur and yellow thick fur in elderly patients with diabetic cardiovascular disease.TCM syndrome, tongue and hs-CRP,AGEs were positively correlated.
