Abstract:Objective To observe the effects of Tenuigenin (TEN) on the ability of spatial learning and memory and long-term potentiation (LTP) in epilepsy model rats by intraperitoneal injection of Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) solution. Methods Male wistar rats were randomly divided into control group, epilepsy model group, and tenuigenin group.Morris water maze test was performed to assess the ability of spatial learning and memory of animals.Additionally, electrophysiological technique was used to observe the changes in rat hippocampal LTP through the comparison of field excitatory postsynaptic potential (fEPSP) amplitudes in hippocampal CA1 region before and after high stimulation(HFS).Meanwhile, the regulation effect of TEN on above indices were studies. Results Compared with control group, the ability of spatial learning and memory as well as LTP were obviously decreased in epilepsy model group, however,TEN improved the abnormal changes of above indices. Conclusion TEN can improve the ability of learning and memory abilities and promote in vivo hippocampal LTP.
