Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of lamotrigine (LTG) and Huafeng Dan (HFD) in the treatment of newly diagnosed patients with epilepsy. Methods Eighty patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy were randomly divided into two groups:control group (n =40) treated with LTG,and treatment group (n =40) treated with LTG and HFD for 12 weeks. The LTG blood concentration and video EEG (EEG) were detected after treatment. The number of seizures, duration, efficacy, and adverse reaction were observed before and after treatment. Results The total clinical effective rate was significantly higher in treatment group than that in control group (87.2% vs 68.4%,P <0.05).There was no significant difference in the LTG blood concentration and the adverse reaction rate between two groups (P >0.05).The seizures, seizure frequency, and duration the discharge was lower in treatment group than that in control group after treatment (P <0.05).Conclusion LTG and HFD can improve the treatment rate, reduce the number of seizures, shorten the duration in patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy.
