Effects of Shenma Yizhi Decoction on Cognitive Function and Hemorheological State In Mild and Moderate Vascular Dementia

Abstract：Objective The aim of study is to observe the effect of Shenma Yizhi decoction (SYD) on hemorheology and cognitive function in mild and moderate vascular dementia (VD).Methods Sixty patients were randomly divided into two groups:control group (n =30) treated with routine treatment plus ginkgo leaves tablets,and experimental group (n =30) treated with SYD in the basis of routine treatment for 3 months.The Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) score and the hemorheological indexes were observed and compared.Results The MMSE scores of the experimental group and the control group was significantly improved in two groups after treatment (P ＜0.05),while was better in experimental group than that in control group (P ＜0.05).In the detection of hemotheological index:When the shear rate were 1.0 s-1 and 5.0 s-1,the blood viscosity of the two groups was significantly lower than that before treatment(P ＜0.05),and there was no significant difference between the two groups after treatment (P ＞ 0.05).When the shear rate were 10.0 s-1,35.0 s-1,120.0 s-1,the blood viscosity had no significant difference in experimental group (P ＞0.05),while it was significantly lower than that before treatment in control group(P ＜0.05).After treatment,the erythrocyte deformation index was significantly higher than that before treatment in experimental group (P ＜0.05),while the control group had no significant difference (P ＞0.05).The platelet aggregation rate and adhesion rate of the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment (P ＜0.05),and there was no significant difference between the two groups after treatment (P ＞0.05).Conclusion SYD can improve the cognitive dysfunction in patients with mild and moderate VD.Meanwhile,it can increase erythrocyte deformability,inhibit platelet function,reduce blood viscosity and improve the blood rheology.
