Effects of Visual Training on the Cognitive Function of Elderly Patients with Non Dementia after Stroke in Community Hospital

Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of visual training on the cognitive function of elderly patients with non dementia after stroke in community hospital.Methods One forty-four elderly patients with non dementia after stroke in Zuojiazhuang community health service center from August 2014 to February 2016 were selected and randomly divided into two groups:control group (n=72) treated with conventional rehabilitation intervention,and observation group (n=72) treated with conventional rehabilitation intervention and visual training for 4 weeks.National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores,training compliance,cognitive function scores were observed.Results The NIHSS scores after intervention were 2.94±1.43 points in observation group and 4.20±1.98 points in control group,which was significantly lower than that before intervention of 6.02±1.45 points and 6.02±1.97 points (P<0.05).The NIHSS scores in observation group after intervention were significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.05).The training compliance was 98.6% in observation group,88.9% in control group,which was significantly higher in observation group than that in control group (P<0.05).The cognitive function scores after intervention were 29.34±3.14 points in observation group and 24.44±4.10 points in control group,which was significantly lower than that before intervention of 19.45±3.78 points and 19.33±4.09 points (P<0.05).The cognitive function scores were significantly lower in observation group after intervention than that in control group (P<0.05).Conclusion The application of visual training in community hospital can improve the compliance of training and improve the cognitive function in patients with non dementia after stroke.
