Relationship between Anxiety,Depression and TCM Constitution

Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between anxiety and depression status and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitution.Methods Five hundreds patients with psychological counseling in the Department of brain were selected.Hamiton Anxiety/Depression Scale scores and TCM constitution were observed.Results The top three TCM constitutions were phlegmy wet constitution, humid and hot constitution, yin deficiency constitution in patients with anxiety state.The top three TCM constitutions were phlegmy wet constitution, yin deficiency constitution,qi stagnation constitution in patients with depression state.There was difference in the distribution of physical and physical distribution in anxiety and depression.The top three TCM constitutions were phlegmy wet constitution, humid and hot constitution, qi deficiency constitution in women with anxiety state,and phlegmy wet constitution, humid and hot constitution,yin deficiency constitution in men with anxiety state.The top three TCM constitutions were phlegmy wet constitution, yin deficiency constitution, qi deficiency constitution in women with depression state,and phlegmy wet constitution, qi stagnation constitution,yin deficiency constitution in men with depression state.Logistic multiple regression analysis showed that anxiety was related to phlegm wet constitution, humid and hot constitution,yin deficiency constitution and blood stasis constitution,while the depression was relation to phlegm wet constitution,qi stagnation constitution and yang deficiency constitution.Conclusion The anxiety and depression status is correlated to TCM constitution.
