Abstract:Objective To study effect of carvedilol on blood pressure, glucose and lipid metabolism and left ventricular mass (LVM) in patients with hypertension. Methods One hundred patients with hypertension in our hospital from March 2014 to March 2015 were selected and randomly divided into two groups:control group treated with metoprolol, and treatment group treated with carvedilol. The diastolic blood pressure (DBP), systolic blood pressure (SBP), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level, insulin (INS), fasting plasma glucose (FPG) level, LVM, left ventricular mass index (LVMI), therapeutic effect were compared. Results After treatment, there was no significant difference in the DBP, SBP levels between two groups (P>0.05).TC,TG,LDL-C levels in treatment group were lower than that in control group while HDL-C was higher than that in control group [(5.56±1.23) mmol/L vs (6.97±2.13) mmol/L,(1.82±0.31) mmol/L vs (2.47±0.58) mmol/L,(1.80±0.57) g/L vs (2.26±0.46) g/L,(2.37±0.52) g/L vs (2.03±0.51) g/L,P<0.05)].INS,FBG in treatment group was lower than that in control group [(11.39±2.04) mU/L vs (13.01±2.19) mU/L,(4.38±0.60) mmol/L vs (4.90±0.62) mmol/L,P<0.05].There was no significant difference in the LVM,LVMI between two groups (P>0.05).The total effective rate was 96.00% in treatment group, which was significantly higher than that in control group (80.00%,P<0.05).Conclusion Carvedilol can improve blood pressure, glucose and lipid metabolism and left ventricular mass, prevent target organ damage in patients with hypertension.
