Abstract:Objective To investigate the comorbidity status of hospitalized patients with stroke and its relationship with hospitalization costs. Methods We collected the data about the hospital costs and basic information of stroke patients admitted in Dalian Changhai Hospital from 2003 to 2013.To account for inflation, all cost data from 2003 to 2012 were adjusted to the level in 2013.Results The total hospital admissions with the purpose of stroke treatment or prevention recurrence were 1 367 during from 2003 to 2013.The total hospital admissions for ischemic stroke were 1 051 cases (76.88%),hemorrhagic stroke were 309 cases (22.60%),and unknown type were 7 cases(0.52%).In the past 11 years, the CPI adusted median hospital costs per admission for all stroke patients was (¥)5 287.8 (3 865.5 to 7 247.6) CNY;(¥)5 056.7 (3 847.8 to 6 429.8) CNY for ischemic stroke, and (¥)7 658.2 (4 319.6 to 13 369.2) CNY for hemorrhagic stroke.Multivariate regression analysis showed that factors significantly associated with increased hospital costs for ischaemic stroke included: LOS,respiratory disease, heart disease, coronary artery disease, and diabetes mellitus. For hemorrhagic stroke, only LOS was associated with increased costs in the regression model.
