Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects and mechanism of Tanyu Tongzhi prescription (TTP) on lipid metabolism in hyperlipidemic mice. Methods Sixty male C57 mice were randomly divided into three groups:HFD group (group A) fed with high fat diet, HFD plus TTP group (group B) given with high fat diet and TTP, HFD plus statin (group C) group fed with high fat and statin. After 12 weeks of administration, the changes of plasma cholesterol, bile acid and related genes expression were observed. Results Compared with group A,the levels of plasma total cholesterol and the expressions of gut apicalsodium-dependent BA uptake transporter (ASBT) gene were significantly decreased in group B (P<0.05).Compared with group A and group C, the expressions of bile salt export pump (BSEP) gene in liver were significantly increased in group B (P<0.05).Conclusion TTP could reduce plasma cholesterol and increase fecal secondary bile acid, which might be attributed to gut ASBT expression inhibition and liver BSEP expression up-regulation.
