Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of various dosage of lipitor on blood lipid and carotid intima-media thickness (CalMT) in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods The study recruited 163 elderly patients of essential hypertension who were diagnosed with dyslipidemia and carotid atherosclerosis, and treated from January 2014 to June 2016.They were randomly divided into two groups: group A (n=81) treated with lipitor 20 mg per day,and treatment group B (n=83) treated with lipitor 30 mg per day for 6 months. The levels of serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and CaIMT pre-and post-treatment were compared between two groups. The possible drug adverse reaction was observed. Results After the treatment, the levels of serum HDL-C, LDL-C, TG, TC, and CaIMT were improved in two groups (P<0.05).There was no significant difference between two groups (P>0.05).There was no significant difference in the drug adverse reaction between two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion Lipitor can improve blood lipid and CalMT in in elderly hypertensive patients with atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia.A daily dosage of 20 mg of lipitor is highly recommended to reach the ideal treatment with safe and effective result.
