Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome and serum lipid levels in elderly patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods One hundred and sixty-seven elderly patients diagnosed as CHD were randomly selected from Department of Cardiology in our hospital, and divided into CHD group (n=100) and non-CHD group (n=67) according to the results of coronary angiography.Patients were divided into phlegm syndrome, blood stasis syndrome, chill stagnate syndrome,qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome according to the syndrome differentiation of TCM.The serum lipid levels were observed in elderly patients with different TCM syndrome. Results The serum levels of total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in CHD group were higher than that in non-CHD group (P<0.05).The serum levels of TC,LDL-C,apolipoprotein B in patients with phlegm syndrome were higher than that in patients with other syndromes (P<0.001).The serum levels of TC in in patients with phlegm syndrome and blood stasis syndrome were higher than that in patients with other syndromes (P<0.05).Conclusion The common TCM syndromes are phlegm syndrome and blood stasis syndrome. There is a certain correlation between phlegm syndrome and dyslipidemia.
