Abstract:Objective To observe the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Hengqing decoction (HQD)in the treatment of verte-brobasilar insufficiency (VBI)-associated vertigo. Methods One hundred and twenty-six patients with VBI were randomly divided into two groups:control group(n=62)treated with routine treatment, and treatment group(n=64)treated with HQD plus routine treatment for 14 days. The therapeutic effect was observed after two treatment courses. The peak-systolic velocity (Vp),end-dias-tolic velocity (Vd)and mean velocity (Vm)of vertebral artery (VA)and basilar artery (BA)were detected with transcranial doppler (TCD)before and after treatment. The change of hemorhcology was also detected. Results The total effective rate was 84.38% and 70.97%in treatment group and control group respectively, with a significant difference between two groups (P<0.05).The Vp,Vd and Vm were significantly increased in treatment group after treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01).The Vp,Vd and Vm in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group after treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01).The hemorheological indexes were significantly improved in the treatment group after treatment (P<0.01).There was no significant difference in hemorhcological inde-xes between before and after treatment in control group (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the hemorhcological indexes were significantly improved in treatment group after treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusion HQD is effective for VBl associ-ated vertigo. The underlying mechanism may be associated with increasing Vp,Vd and Vm and improving hemorhcology.
