Abstract:Objective To provide experimental evidence supporting the clinical application of panax notoginseng saponins (PNS)as an anti arrhythmic agent. The current study evaluated the effect of PNS on isoproterenol (ISO) induced atrial fibril ation in mouse. Methods C57BL/6 male mice were randomly divided into normal controls group, mode groud and treat went group.ISO was adminis-tered to vehicle treated or PNS treated mice 30 min after PBS vehicle or PNS treatment 30 min after PBS vehicle or PNS treat-ment.The dynamic changes of electrocardiogram were monitored for 2 h and the serum levels of super oxide dismutase (SOD),glu-tathione (GSH),malondialdehyde (MDA)and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs CRP)were determined as wel . Results Compared to that from vehicle treated ISO chal enged mice, the total incidence of proiosystole and atrial fibril ation were signifi-cantly decreased in ISO chal enged mice treated by PNS. Moreover, compared to that from ISO chal enged mice treated by PBS vehicle,PNS treatment resulted in significant reductions in serum levels of MDA and hs CRP as wel as significantly increased ser-um level of SOD. Conclusion There sult demonstrated that PNS treatment aule protected against ISO induced atrial fibril ation and associated changes in oxidative stress and inflammation in mice.
