Abstract:Objective To study zhe relationship between elderly hypertensive patients with hyperuricemia and complement 4 (C4). Methods Four hundreds and sixty four elderly hypertensive patients in the department of Cardiology of Guang Anmen Hospital at-tached to China Academy of Traditional Chinese medical science were selected in the period of November 2013 to June 2015,228 patients were males and 236 females, mean age (78.59± 7.96)years old,137 patients with hyperuricemia were diagnosed as group A,327 patients with non hyperuricemia were as group B.The difference of complement 3(C3)and C4 were compared between the two groups. Results The levels of C3,C4,total complement (CH50)were 0.894 g/L± 0.184 g/L,0.218 g/L± 0.052 g/L,47.58 g/L± 7.38 g/L in group A,0.829 g/L± 0.175 g/L,0.200 g/L± 0.059 g/L,45.08 g/L± 7.19 g/L in group B.The levels of C3,C4 and CH50in A group were higher than that in B group(P<0.05).Spearman correlation analysis showed that C3(r=0.179,P=0.002),C4(r=0.183,P=0.002), CH50(r=0.181,P=0.002)were significantly positively correlated with hyperuricemia.Multivariate linear regression anlaysis showed that serum C4 level was independently associated with hyperuricemia, and it was an independent factor of hyperuricemia. Conclusion There may be a close relationship between hyperuricemia and the activation of the complement system in elderly patients with hy-pertension,and C4 may be an independent factor of hyperuricemia.C4 may be a predictor of disease and therapeutic target in elderly patients with hypertension and hyperuricemia.
