Abstract:Objective To study the relationship of homocysteine(Hcy)levels and arterial lesions and left ventricular hypertrophy in pa-tients with essential hypertension (EH).Methods One hundred and twenty patients with EH from October 2012 to August 2015 were divided into group A (n=70,Hcy 15 tendency/L or higher)and group B (n=70,Hcy<15 tendency/L)according to the Hcy levels. Then 120 patients were divided into group A (25 cases, hypertension grade 1),B group (56 cases, high blood pressure level 2),C group (39 cases, hypertension level 3).Eighty healthy subjects were selected as control group. The left ventricular morphology were determined by doppler flow imaging, and the left ventricular mass index (LVMI)and left ventricular mass(LVM)were calculate, left ventricular hypertrophy index of two groups and Hcy levels were compared. Results There was difference in LVMI,LVM,LVESD, LVEDD,LVPWT,LVST between group B and group A(P<0.05).There was difference in Hcy levels and carotid intima media thick-ness between high blood pressure patients and control group(P<0.05).Hcy levels and carotid intima media thickness and the se-verity of hypertension was proportional, control group and group A of patients with carotid plaques incidence was lower than that in group B and group C(P<0.05).Hcy levels of left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with hypertension was obviously higher than that in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy of hypertension(P<0.05).Conclusion The occurrence, development of EH is closely re-lated to Hcy level.Hcy level reflects the severity of artery lesions and left ventricular hypertrophy.
