A Comparative Study of Ambulatory 24 hours Blood Pressure monitor in the Middle Aged and Elderly People in Shandong

Abstract:Objective To investigate the characteristics and changes of 24 hours ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM)in mid-dle aged and old people with hypertension in,so as to guide the treatment of hypertension.Methods Subjects with hypertension were selected from Shandong.The middle aged people between 45 to 59 years old (the middle aged group,n=100)and the elderly peo-ple more than 60 years old (the elderly group,n=120)were enrol ed.ABPM were observed.24 h,daytime and nighttime mean blood pressure,average pulse pressure and blood pressure variability were analyzed.Results Compared with the middle aged group,the proportion of 24 h ambulatory blood pressure in scoop type curve decreased obviously in the elderly group.The elderly group with pure 24 h systolic blood pressure increased,which was with significant difference in the middle aged group.Blood pressure variability in elderly group was greater than that in the middle aged people,mainly reflected in the systolic blood pressure.Conclusion Ambu-latory blood pressure monitor is helpful to guide the treatment of hypertension in the middle aged and elderly patients.
